Thwarting the spambots

New postby Cigfetish » Sun Jul 12, 2009 8:37 am

I've made a couple of changes to the board to help thwart the spambots we've been getting.

1) Any member having under 10 posts must have their post approved by the moderators. Those who have more than 10 posts will not be affected by this.

2) All new registrations must be activated by the member. New members will get an email to confirm once they register. If you're already a member, this will not affect you.

Sorry for the spam here recently. I'm working on it.

I had a very similar problem on my board, all new member registrations are now manually activated by me on The UK Smoking Board and each is rigorously checked. Be ware though my friend the spammers although they will not get access to your board because of the registration process they will still try and register leaving you a lot of work to delete/clear your acp everyday. Good luck with it all as these spammers can be a real pain in the ....

Thanks for the heads up. I'm fully expecting to delete 10-15 messages a day. I'd rather have to do it, rather than everyone else seeing the spam and getting frustrated.
